“We are committed to caring for each child beyond any parent’s expectations. We endeavour to nurture our children emotionally, physically and academically. We regard each child as an individual and we will display love and care in all that we do” We understand that enrolling your children in their first school years can be a daunting experience. With emotions running high, be it anxiety or excitement, leaving your child in the hands of someone else is one of the biggest decisions a parent will ever make.

We understand that enrolling your children in their first school years can be a daunting experience. With emotions running high, be it anxiety or excitement, leaving your child in the hands of someone else is one of the biggest decisions a parent will ever make.
At Junior College Sandton, we have a wonderful team of qualified, committed staff that thrives on giving our children the best education, guidance and support.
We enroll children from the age of 6 weeks to 6 years. We have a fantastic child-adult ratio which enables the teachers to give the children the individual attention they deserve and require.
In our baby room, we have an indoor play area separate to the sleeping area where each child has their very own cot supplied with bedding. The babies can develop their gross motor skills, sensory development and be exposed to different textures and natural elements, all in the comfort and security of their own garden which leads just off their indoor play area. The teachers in the room develop the babies’ muscle tone by using a variety of baby massage techniques for their cognitive and creative development, Music Masters will be doing a music lesson for 20 minutes once a week, using various instruments.
The children have movement rings, read stories and have a variety of sensory equipment and toys which they use at their discretion. For those mothers that need advice with feeding, weaning, teething, or milestones, our teachers are equipped with handy information to pass on to those who need it.
We have an enriching academic programme compiled for our toddler group right through to our Grade 0 (Grade R) group. We focus on creating an inviting and encouraging atmosphere in all the classrooms where we develop creative thinking, language, numeracy and literacy skills. All activities are linked to a theme and are age-appropriate. The classrooms are laid out in 6 areas of learning which keeps the children constantly challenged to keep their little minds growing.
As we regard Junior Colleges as a “home away from home” we are committed to teaching life skills. Our Grade 0 children undergo school readiness testing twice a year to ensure that they are progressing according to their milestones and are meeting all the requirements for Grade 1.
Each age group gets three progress reports per year with a pack of each child’s artwork that has been collected throughout the term. We offer a variety of extramural activities like Monkeynastix, Karate, Ballet, Soccer Starz, swimming and more! These activities are done on the school premises.
Our hours are Monday to Friday, 07h00 to 17h30. We are open from January to December every year and work according to the Government school terms. During the holidays we run a fun and exciting holiday program which is included in the monthly fee. The children go on outings and we have theatre productions and puppet shows once a term. We do, however, close on the 15th of December at 12:00 until +- the 6th of January of the following year.
For the safety of our staff, parents and children we have a security guard that is on duty from 06h45 until the closing staff leaves the school. We are linked to ADT security and have 24 hour protection 365 days of the year. All our staff are first-aid trained, including the security guard, and our teachers and assistants have constant training to keep them abreast of changes in the education department.
Some of the year’s highlights include the school’s annual concert production where the children put on a fantastic performance, our Grandparents’ Day, Mother’s and Father’s Day events, Easter functions and our end of year Christmas Market or Carols by Candlelight.
Our children are given the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe, secure environment. They are encouraged to explore, discover and do. We encourage them to go places they might fear, but with support every step of the way!
At Junior College Sandton, we embrace the fact that children will be children; we love and nurture each child working towards creating confident, self-sufficient little adults.
